LETTERS OF THE SKIN MAGAZINE

A collaboration of photography, prose, poetry and other miscellaneous artworks responding to the stimulus of 'skin'. This was interpreted as looking at the physical human form as well as how the self interacts with the world around us, examining the  shape of  identity, culture and heritage.

I worked on ensuring that the visual aesthetics were coherent across the pages and that the final work fitted my intended outcome. I began by reaching out to artists I knew, asking for a response to the title "letters of the skin" and organised the submitted works into a story that runs throughout the magazine, weaving together different interpretations and imageries. For the written works, I developed and re-constructed my older work, often using my film photography alongside my written work to 'visualise' the language.

I worked with the artists, ensuring they were all satisfied with the way their final works were displayed in the magazine. With help from my co-editor (shoutout Izzy), the magazine was sent for its initial draft and worked quickly to rectify changes in design, concept and print errors. I consulted a variety of friends/family that helped me streamline the final vision - thankyou to everyone that helped out!

For the marketing of the magazine and the event I was hosting for its release, my friends (shoutout Leila, Emily) helped me make event posters to be made and distributed. Two of my friends kindly took over the promotional content through taking photos and videos to post on instagram. They did an amazing job!

The release party was hosted at Art Club, a venue in Bristol, where the magazines were sold, enjoyed and celebrated. There was also an open mic event to encourage the voice and 'identity' that the magazine was inspired by. There were singers, musicians and spoken word poets - some of which were friends, friends of friends and new people to connect with.

People enjoyed the handmade food that me and a friend (shoutout Belis) also prepared for the event, bringing our love for Turkish deserts and small bites to the project. My friends (shoutout Abi, Lily, Ruby) helped with the sales of magazines and food.

(also shoutout Kier, Charlie who were in charge of ticket management)

(shoutout Arabesque for the DJ set to end the night)

Despite a few minor layout errors within the magazine which I would like to fix, I'm happy and proud of the final outcome. Thankyou for everyone that helped on this project and all the fun we had :)
